Finding the perfect finishing powder can be tricky. You want a product that isn’t too cakey, reduces shine and keeps your make up in place for as long as possible. If you are like me then you have tried several different brands and several different price points to find ‘The One‘. Only to be left disappointed…. Well, I think I may have found a powder that comes pretty close ladies. Keep reading to find out more.
What Is My Skin Type?
So my skin type would be combination but mainly oily. Because of this I am always on the hunt for a powder that that helps control this oil and makes my skin look matte. No ‘dewy glow’ for me unfortunately ladies! I have gone through a few less expensive powders over the years and although they have helped a bit, I have never been overly pleased with the results. My fellow oily skin ladies will no doubt relate! Finding the perfect powder is not easy. I decided that I needed to invest a bit more to really control that shine. This is when I headed to MAC and checked out the MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder.
About The Product
This product is described as “a silky colourless finishing powder suitable for all skin tones that reduces shine.” This powder is white in colour but goes on clear when applied to the skin. The sales assistant informed me that I could wear this over my make up or on it’s own. This is great for days when I couldn’t be bothered putting on any make up (we all have those days) but still want to reduce the shine on my face. On these ‘no make up’ days I simply apply the powder and fill in my brows. Done!
MAC also have this product in a loose powder if this is what you would prefer. I stayed with the pressed powder as I have always found loose powders too messy to use. The applicator is sold separately however I prefer to use a brush as it goes on easier. I also find that a sponge can affect the make up I have applied underneath as I dab on the powder so I steer clear of those.
What Is The Packaging Like?
The packaging of the Prep And Prime Transparent Finishing Powder is a simple black compact with the logo ‘MAC Prep + Prime’ on the front. The powder and mirror are on the inside. The mirror is so handy for topping up on the go or when you may not have a mirror handy. Like I said above there is no applicator that comes with this so you have to pick up your own.
What Is The Application Like?
As I said above, the powder is white but it goes onto the skin clear. It is solely designed to reduce shine so will not add any colour to the face. For application I swirl a fluffy brush around the product and apply onto my face. I apply this all over with an extra focus on my forehead and chin. If you prefer not to look too matte, simply apply this to areas that have become too oily throughout the day rather than all over.
How Long Does It Last For?
How long it lasts for usually depends on what I am doing at the time. If I am wearing this powder over make up at work I will usually have to top it up on my T-Zone after lunch some time. Baring in mind that I have to do my make up at around 6.30/7am, this is pretty good. On a night out, I normally wouldn’t have to top up my powder. I would the odd night just to avoid any oiliness, but this is also down to my paranoia that I will look like I took a bath in baby oil! Not a good look!
Final Verdict
If you have oily skin like I do, I would recommend picking up this product. It hides the shine on my face without being to heavy or cakey. I like that it has both a pressed and loose version for whatever you prefer. My skin also feels matte without being too dry which sometimes happens when you have to reapply powder often like I do. Definitely a must have.
