#FANCYREVIEWS: SOSUbySJ Lashes Beginners Review

Ladies, we have all heard about the SOSUbySJ lashes. These are part of a beauty range by Irish blogger Suzanne Jackson that includes a contour palette, nail polish, lashes and more. I decided to give the lashes a go and see what all the fuss was about. Check out this weeks #FANCYREVIEWS: SOSUbySJ Lashes Beginners Review to find out.

Background

So I think it’s important to point out that I am a newbie when it comes to applying false lashes. I have had make up artists apply them for me in the past but I have never actually had the courage to attempt it myself. Two layers of mascara and I’m usually good to go! Anyone else? I was starting to hear some hype about the SOSU by SJ lashes and thought it was time to finally give it a go. I am often skeptical about celebrity beauty products and whether they are actually worth the money. However, I am a huge fan of Suzannes nail polishes so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. So if, like me, applying false eyelashes is a daunting experience, keep reading to see how I got on.

You can find the full collection on her website here. You can also pick up a limited edition lash case to store your lashes in after the first use. Oh yes, you can re-use her lashes too ladies. Packaging

The packaging is quite sleek and glam. The 100% Human Hair lashes come in a black box with gold detailing. Inside the box the lashes are stored on a white plastic platform. I picked the Erica lashes which are half lashes that would sit just at the outer corner of your lash line. This would create a more fuller look on the outer corner while keeping the inner lash line more natural. I chose these lashes as they seemed to be long but not too dramatic. This was perfect as I wanted to keep my look quite natural. Plus, as this was my first time applying them, I figured it was the safer option.

Glue

These lashes do not come with a glue but Suzanne has previously stated that she is working on her own ‘SOSU GLU’ that will come in a white and a black version. I picked up Duo Glue this time as I had heard it was the best option.

Measurements

When I took the lashes out of the packaging they looked quite nice. They seemed like the type of lashes you could wear during the day to lunch or heading out to the shops. Before adding the glue, I placed the false lashes on my own to check the size. When I did this they looked far too long. So I grabbed a scissors and slightly trimmed the actual lashes, careful not to trim it too much as I still wanted a good bit of volume. I think this is such an important step as the lashes looked a lot more dramatic on than they did in the box.

Application

I applied my eye shadow and eyeliner before applying the lashes. Then it was time to give it a go… Here goes nothing!

I applied a thin amount of glue to the band of the lashes and allowed it to dry for 30 seconds as recommended. After 30 seconds I carefully attached the lashes on top of my own. I was surprised at how easy these were to apply. I had visions of gluing my eyes shut! With a small bit of arranging it was secure on my eye and I was ready to start the next one.

Below is a picture before I applied the lashes and after.

This is what the lashes looked like on Suzanne herself. Probably applied much better of course….

How Do They Feel On?

When I first applied the lashes they did feel slightly strange. I was very conscious that they were on and I could actually see the lashes. However, I got used to this fairly quickly and it didn’t bother me any more. This may be due to the fact that the lashes are more natural rather than full and fluffy. Either way, I was delighted!

How Long Did They Stay Put

I wore these lashes to dinner with some friends after applying them. As I was only out for about two hours I cannot confirm how they would last on a long night out. However, they didn’t budge for me and still looked perfect when I came home.

Final Verdict

  • Easy to apply: I was surprised at how easy it was to apply these lashes. As I had previously stated, this was the first time that I had applied false eyelashes myself. I was expecting it to be a complete disaster but it was actually the opposite. The glue was pretty easy to apply also and made no mess whatsoever. Did I mention I was expecting this to go horribly wrong? Oh I did….
  • Comfortable: Like I stated above, the lashes originally didn’t feel very natural on. When I was waiting for the glue to set however, they became more comfortable. This was important to me as I know they would drive me mad otherwise and I would just end up taking them off.
  • Take time to measure: One thing I would do differently would be to take more time measuring the lashes to my own. As you may see from the images above the lashes were still slightly too long. Or at least they looked this way to me. I would also cut the lash band slightly shorter as they looked a bit too big for my liking. So yes, I would advise taking a good bit of time to measure the lash correctly before application.
  • Not so natural: I picked the Erica lashes as they looked like the most natural pair of lashes out of the collection. However, when I had applied them they didn’t look how I had imagined them too. Saying that, they are false eyelashes. The aim is to give you a more dramatic look and that they definitely did.

These lashes would be perfect to complete your hen party look. The Erica lashes would suit a sophisticated activity such as afternoon tea or a dance class. I think my next purchase will have to be the Ella lashes. I now feel like I have to conquer the false lashes world! Plus, when I took the lashes off my own seemed minuscule in comparison. Is this how people get hooked?!

Check out Suzanne wearing some of the lashes below….

Where To Buy: These lashes can be purchased through the SoSubySJ website here. You can pick the Duo Glue up in most pharmacies including Boots and online stores including Cloud 10 Beauty.

Price: The 100% human hair lashes are €5.95, silk lashes are €19.95 and the lash case is €10. The silk lashes are currently reduced to €15.

Worth It?: Yes. As I was a newbie I did make some mistakes but with practice I am sure they would look fantastic. They are also easy to apply which would be great when getting ready for the Hen Party. More time to celebrate!
