#FancyReviews: The New MAC Next To Nothing Foundation

Looking for a natural foundation that stays put during all the Hen Party festivities? Or are you looking for natural coverage on your wedding day? Keep reading to hear all about this weeks #FancyReviews: The New MAC Next To Nothing Foundation.

I was very excited to hear about MACs new foundation Next To Nothing. I am a huge fan of the ‘no make up – make up look’ and was intrigued by this product. The name alone was a winner for me! If I looked like I was wearing ‘next to nothing’ on my face then I would be happy! As a fan of MAC cosmetics I had high expectations for this new foundation and had to pick it up. Keep reading to see what I really thought after I tried it recently.

What I Was Looking For?

When it comes to make up I always look for something natural. Yes, I want to cover those bags and blemishes but I don’t want to look like I am caked in foundation. What I want from my make up is to give me a little bit of colour, cover the majority of my blemishes and bags under my eyes after a late night or two. I basically want it to look like I am not wearing foundation even though I am. Don’t we all! Therefore I am always on the hunt for the ‘perfect natural’ foundation.

What Is It?

The new MAC Next To Nothing Foundation is a foundation that is supposed to give you a natural make up look. It is classed as a tinted cream that is lighter than normal foundation. When I picked up this product in the MAC store the sales assistant told me that she uses this under her foundation, like she would a BB Cream. She likes full coverage and said that this foundation doesn’t give her enough. That is why she uses it with her normal foundation. So it basically depends on what you are looking for in a foundation. If you want full coverage, maybe steer clear of this product or use it with your own foundation. If you are looking for light coverage, this might be up your street.

There are nine shades with this foundation;

  1. Dark
  2. Dark deep
  3. Dark plus
  4. Light
  5. Light plus
  6. Medium
  7. Medium dark
  8. Medium deep
  9. Medium plus

  • Mositurising

  • Worn alone
  • Diminishes imperfections and fine lines
  • Refines skin texture
  • Oil free
  • For all skin types

Packaging

The packaging of the Next To Nothing Foundation is similar to the classic MAC packaging you would find in their other products. It is a clear glass bottle with a black pump on top. It has the standard black MAC logo on the front with a description of the product on the bottom. I love that it has a pump! This means that you don’t waste product and you don’t accidentally apply too much.

My Skin Type

My skin type is a bit of a mixture. It is mainly oily with some dry patches from time to time. I also suffer from the odd blemish (isn’t that supposed to stop after being a teenager?!) quite often. This makes picking a foundation quite tricky for me. Wearing make up all day makes my blemishes worse and my oily skin makes it slide right off my face. Not ideal! Therefore, like I said above, I was looking for something light. I was also looking for a foundation that would be some way kind to my skin.

My Opinion

I like this foundation but I have just one criticism. It does make my oily skin a little bit more shiny. However, because it is a highly nourishing foundation, this can be expected. As long as I apply some powder after the application then my skin stays generally matte for a few hours. I do have to top up the powder again but I am used to doing this with other foundations anyway. I normally apply just a small amount during the day and the less product I use the less shiny my face becomes.

Aside from that, I really like it. I went with the light shade as I am naturally quite pale. If you are pale but like to wear a bit of tan I would go with the light plus. This gives a little bit more colour that would blend in nicely with the rest of your body. Before applying this foundation I applied some Smashbox primer. This helps my make up last longer but also soaks up some of the oil on my face and makes it more matte and smooth. My foundation application was a lot easier. It gives my skin a nice colour, hides most of my blemishes and dark circles. It is a great foundation to wear during the day to give the look of clear and healthy skin.

Final Thoughts

Where To Buy: Brown Thomas

Price: €32

Worth It?: Yes. If you are looking for a natural foundation that still gives you coverage, this is perfect. However, if you have oily skin I would make sure you use plenty of powder and top it up to ensure your face doesn’t get too shiny. However, if you have oily skin you are more than likely used to this already.
