#FancyTrends: Donal Skehans Energy Balls

During the Hen Party celebrations, it is important to keep your energy up right ladies? Check out this weeks tasty #FancyTrends: Donal Skehans Energy Balls to keep your snack game strong.

Preparing a few healthy snacks before the hen party is a great idea ladies! This will guarantee that the hens stay full and happy, energy levels stay high and you can stay some what healthy amidst all the partying! It will at least make you feel less guilty about all the delicious food and drink you will be consuming! This is also a fantastic idea for the morning after too when you can barely budge from the bed. Grab your pre made treats and snack away in bed while recalling the fun night with the hens. The hens will get some natural sugars to keep them going until breakfast and the delicious and sweet flavours should ease the sore head some bit. Perfect!

Nice And Easy

Planning a hen party can be busy right ladies? Because of this we went on the hunt for a snack that would only take a few minutes to make and would stay fresh for the weekend. Luckily we came across a fantastic energy balls recipe by Donal Skehan that was exactly what we were looking for. We whipped these up over the weekend to try them ourselves and we can testify that they taste amazing! The hens are sure to gobble these down!

This is a brilliant idea if you are travelling far in the car, train or even hopping on a plane for the hen party. What a nice little touch to the weekend to prepare some tasty treats for everyone! The bride-to-be will appreciate the effort you went to to keep everyones belly full. Brownie points!

Time To Make

  • 10 mins

  • 50 people

What you need

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Blender

  • 150g porridge oats
  • 150g ground almonds
  • 20 medjool dates
  • 2tbsp maple syrup
  • 150ml espresso
  • 4 tbsp almond butter
  • 4 tbsp desiccated coconut
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp 100% cocoa powder

How To Make

  1. Add all the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix together.
  2. Add in the wet ingredients. Mix together using your hands or a blender until you achieve a sticky dough texture.
  3. Grab about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball using your hands. Continue this with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Feel free to add some cocoa powder or seeds to the balls for decoration.
  5. Keep in the fridge for about an hour before eating. We kept ours in the fridge overnight and popped them into a lunch box to take to work the next day. (They didn’t last long!)
  6. These can be stored in the fridge or freezer for whenever you get a bit peckish!

So there you have it ladies. A delicious, quick and healthy snack that would be perfect for the hen party. Even if you are not heading off on a hen, this snack is a great everyday idea. Make them at the beginning of the week and keep them in your fridge. All you need to do then is pop some into a lunch box and bring a few to work. This will stop the cravings for unhealthy snacks which we all get from time to time. If you have a wedding to stay in shape for, this is even more important! Just be aware – they are very tasty! So don’t eat them all in one go!
