#FancyTrends: Thinking Of Botox Before The Hen Party Or Wedding?

Thinking of getting Botox before the hen party, wedding or an upcoming event? Maybe you are just curious as to what it’s all about? Keep reading for all the exclusive information on this weeks #FancyTrends: Thinking Of Botox Before The Hen Party Or Wedding?

Botox is one of those treatments that we are all curious about. It is becoming a more and more popular treatment with Irish celebrities such as Amanda Brunker, Rachel Wallace and Aisling O’ Loughlin confessing that they too have had the treatment. More ‘regular’ people are also getting Botox, whether or not people actually choose to talk about it. This treatment is particularly popular before special occasions such as hen parties and weddings when everyone wants to look their best. Whether it’s the bride-to-be, bridesmaids, mother of the bride or groom, cosmetic treatments such as Botox can remove those dreaded fine lines and wrinkles. Especially if you will be looking at pictures of yourself for years to come!

TheFancyHen.ie team recently met Dr. Kevin O Brien from WinningSmile.ie. Kevin talked us through the honest ins and outs of Botox treatments and even did a demo on model Lynda. Keep reading to find out more and check out the demo video below.

What exactly is Botox?

Botox is the shortened version of Botulinum toxin which is injected into the face in small concentrated amounts. It basically stops signals from the nerve cells reaching the muscles which prevents them contracting each time you make a facial expression such as frowning or smiling. These facial expressions can increase the chance of lines when done regularly. Therefore once the Botox is injected it prevents the signs of wrinkles and fine lines. Ideal!

Is there any pain?

While doing the procedure I simply had to ask Dr Kevin and Lynda if there was any pain or discomfort involved in this treatment. Whether it hurts or not would be a big factor in whether I would consider a treatment like this. Big baby over here! Dr Kevin described the sensation as a slight scratching feeling rather than painful. The needles themselves are very small and therefore not very invasive. It really depends on how you are when it comes to needles. I myself may need a hand to hold!

Is there any bruising?

A little bruising is rare but it can happen as everyone’s body is different. This bruising is usually small however and can be easily covered up with make up. It is recommended that you get this procedure done well before an upcoming event as a test to see how you react to it and if you do get any bruising. If you do experience any marks, this should go down after a few days.

When should I start to see results?

Dr Kevin explained that the treatment will usually take 5 to 7 days days to kick in. In relation to the Botox for laugh lines, he recommended that the client goes home, exaggerates a smile, takes a picture of it and do the same in 5 to 7 days to track the difference. He also stated that some people start to see results after 2 to 3 days if they have had this procedure done before as the body is used to it.

What exactly happens during the procedure?

During the demo, Kevin cleaned the area where he will be injecting with some disinfectant. He got Lynda to smile so that he could see the ‘laugh lines’ or ‘crows feet’ and know where to put the Botox. The procedure itself just takes a few seconds so should be over before you know it. Before injecting the Botox, Kevin placed two fingers between the area and the eye just to protect the eye itself. He then injected the three units on the left and then right side. Hey Presto, he was done!

When should I get Botox before my wedding?

Dr Kevin told us that it’s a good idea to get this treatment done about a year before the wedding to test it out. The reason behind this is so the bride-to-be, hen or mother of the bride can see what the treatment is like, how it looks after and how long it takes to heal. Having done it before will give you a good time frame as to when you should do the treatment. This was a valuable piece of advice ladies as results can vary from person to person. Coming up to the wedding then it is recommended to get it done about a month beforehand. This gives enough time for bruising to go down. The results themselves should last up to six months, depending on the type of Botox you used.
