Would You Rent A Bridesmaid?
Would You Rent A Bridesmaid?
Would You Rent A Bridesmaid? Yes, you heard right – rent. Would you pay a professional who would be at your beck and call and do all the dirty work leading up to and including your wedding? Sounds good to us! Keep reading to find out more.
What Is A Professional Bridesmaid?
So you have picked your bridesmaids and the planning has started. However, with other commitments taking charge the girls are not as available as you would like them to be. Maybe you simply cannot choose between your friends and family members to do the honours. This is where a professional bridesmaid comes in! Think Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses, except Katherine gets paid. This bridesmaid is there to help you all the way through to the big day, from start to finish. She will be your right hand gal making sure everything runs smoothly. She will also be one of your ‘bridesmaids’ on the day, posing for pictures, standing at the alter and making sure you are happy and stress free on the day.
Keep it hush-hush!
Nervous about people finding out you are paying for a bridesmaid? Well you can choose whether or not to tell people that the bridesmaid is in fact hired. You could even come up with an alias and a back story if you wish. She can be Mary O Connor from college or Joanne Smith from work. No one needs to know. And yes, we are aware this sounds like a story from a very cheesy movie!
There are several reasons why a bride-to-be might hire a bridesmaid. These reasons include;
1. Not everyone wants to be a bridesmaid
You may be excited to ask your best friend to be your bridesmaid and assume she would simply love to help you out! However, this may not be the case. As your friend, she will act enthusiastic and exciting on the outside but could be full of dread on the inside. With a busy work schedule, possibly a family and other important commitments, your chosen bridesmaids may not be as excited as you are. In this case hiring a bridesmaid means you can rely on this person to be there for you at all times.
2. Do the job right
With a professional bridesmaid you are sure to have her full attention. It is literally their job to help you with tasks such as looking for bridesmaid dresses, planning the hen party, holding up the layers of chiffon when you need to use the toilet, being the first on the dance floor and so much more. As they are getting paid to do this you are sure that they will actually do it!
3. Balance out the numbers
So you have asked two of your closest friends to be your bridesmaids and you can’t wait for the celebrations to begin. Next thing, your hubby-to-be tells you that he just had to ask his brother to be a groomsmen too, meaning he now has three in total. This won’t be an issue if you have a back up bridesmaid but not everyone does. Nightmare! In this case you could hire a bridesmaid and pretend you know her from work! Just don’t have too many glasses of bubbly and let it slip on the night….
4. Not bridesmaid material
So you have know your best friend for years and you love her to bits. You can rely on her for a killer hen party but can you rely on her to pick up the flowers on time or help carry your train throughout the day/night? Planning a wedding can be stressful enough without a flaky bridesmaid to deal with. A professional bridesmaid is there to make sure all these details are attended to at all times. Now that would be a load off your mind.
What would you do?
We recently held a poll on Twitter to get your opinion on renting a bridesmaid. Here we simply asked “would you hire a bridesmaid?“. And the results are in….
- “What a great idea!” – 0%
- “Of course not” – 60%
- “If I needed to, I would” – 40%
Clearly you ladies are not a fan of the idea of paying someone to be your bridesmaid. However, if you needed to, you would. Could this mean you would if your current bridesmaids weren’t up to scratch? Maybe if you were lacking in people to ask? In TheFancyHen.ie office we have to agree. Ideally we wouldn’t want to resort to paying someone to be our bridesmaid, but if push came to shove we would not rule it out.
Where can you hire a bridesmaid?
In America Jen Glantz launched her own business called ‘Bridesmaid For Hire‘. Here you can hire a bridesmaid, a wedding coach and more. We came across another professional bridesmaid in the UK, Tiffany Wright – Undercover Bridesmaid, who earns £125 an hour for her services! Unfortunately we haven’t found any bridesmaids for hire in Ireland yet. If you hear of any, let us know!
